AERATION
In Colorado the soil consists of hard clay and with everyday lawn traffic, soil compaction and turf deterioration occurs. When soil is compacted, dirt particles are forced together reducing the area where roots can grow.
Aeration, sometimes called "core aeration" consists of perforating the soil and the thatch above it with small holes that remove cores of soil, thatch and grass. This allows water, air and fertilizer to get closer to the grass' roots, and enables them to grow more deeply, producing a more vigorous lawn. In tests, grass roots have been shown to proliferate around the holes. Aerating will also improve soil compaction and reduce the likelihood of thatch becoming an issue.
We recommend Lawn Aeration in the spring and fall.
FERTILIZATION
If a thick green weed-free lawn is you goal then you are going to need to have fertilizer applied to you lawn. Fertilizing is an important lawn care practice, as it influences grass color, ability to recover from stress, and helps prevent weed invasions and disease.
Fertilizer helps your lawn stay healthy by:
- Promoting new leaf and root growth
- Aiding in the recovery from foot traffic and pest damage
- Reducing and controlling weeds
- Replacing nutrients lost to leaching
We use an organic fertilizer which is more earth friendly than synthetic fertilizers.
We suggest applying the fertilizer the same visit as the aeration. This provides optimum results allowing the fertilizer to
penetrate the soil more efficiently, decreasing the likelihood of runoff or it blowing away.
